We had been looking forward to the gala premiere of the musical The Bata Clan, presented by the Kampa Museum’s Summer Stage, for over a year. And from the very moment we met the creators of this production, we sensed that something sincere and grand was taking shape under their guidance. We were not mistaken. It was truly a refreshing collaboration, and today—after seeing the performance and gradually taking in all our impressions—we are delighted to add that something truly unforgettable has been created by writer Daniela Sodomová and director Adéla Laštovková Stodolová.

A powerful production has been born—one that truly charts the entire Bata clan—offering perfect singing, dancing, and acting performances, which were dominated in Tuesday’s performance by Oskar Hes (Tomas Bata), Daniel Krejčík (Jan Antonin Bata), and Kryštof Krhovják (Thomas Bata Jr.)—though the entire cast deserves a round of applause, as they displayed absolutely fantastic theatrical chemistry on stage over the course of three hours.

The musical The Baťa Clan not only glides through history with refined elegance, but also brilliantly captures the essence of Tomas Bata’s personality and delves deep beneath the surface —highlighting Baťa’s way of thinking and his timeless philosophy, as well as strongly referencing his moral legacy, which states that once a company becomes merely a manufacturing enterprise, it ceases to serve its purpose, and if a company stops developing its system on a daily basis, it will lose it.

Despite all the twists and turns, the occasional heaviness, and the gravity that the rich story of Bata—spanning the ages, or rather the past 150 years—brings, one leaves the performance feeling positively moved. One leaves with hope and also with the knowledge that “if you want to, you can.”

THANK YOU, IT WAS AN HONOR!

P.S.: We’re delighted that The Baťa Clan has taken its place alongside Meda, Werich, Marta, and Forman—equally remarkable productions at Kampa—and that it’s sold out through the end of the season. Well deserved.
