There are moments that you don’t even think about, but they happen naturally. One such moment occurred yesterday when we launched our new book entitled Bata Schools of Work. The descendants of those featured in the book unexpectedly appeared in the audience – and what’s more, they christened the book. It was touching to see Mrs. Jabůrková and Mr. Podhorný and Mr. Veverka, whose parents were graduates of the Bata School of Work and are featured in the book, participate in this ceremonial act. We think they would be proud. And also happy that Bata values are being passed on.

Thank you for attending this evening, and thank you to actor Gustav Řezníčekhead tailor Jaroslav Mejta, and the guys from the band Franc Alpa. You all made this an unforgettable gathering.

The publication Bata Schools of Work combines the now out-of-print books Bata’s Zlín – Young Womenand Bata’s Zlín – Young Men. It describes the establishment and operation of Bata Schools of Work, which were characterized by their unique approach to educating young people, combining education with compulsory work in the factory and compulsory life in the dormitory. It also includes excerpts from several rare interviews with graduates of these schools and dozens of period photographs of specific graduates, giving readers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in their everyday student life.

The book Bata Schools of Work also provides inspiration on how to transform the education of young people so that they grow up to be healthy, self-confident, and socially responsible individuals.
