Zlín handball joined in the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Tomas Bata, the most prominent figure in the city of Zlín. During the last home game of the top men’s league, which took place on Sunday, 26 April, the home team faced off against HBC Strakonice 1921. The program also included a ceremonial event attended by representatives of the Thomas Bata Foundation.
“The Zlín handball players took the court in special retro jerseys, followed by a ceremonial tip-off, which was also performed by Gabriela Končitíková. During the break, she presented Bata’s legacy, and there were also skill competitions for valuable Bata prizes, which perfectly complemented the atmosphere of Sunday afternoon. It was a great honour for us to participate in this sporting celebration, and we thank the entire Zlín club for their pleasant cooperation,” said Jakub Malovaný, project manager at the Thomas Bata Foundation.
Handball has been an integral part of sporting life in Zlín since 1920. The local club trains both girls and boys not only to be skilled athletes, but also to become individuals who embrace important life values.
